PROJECT DESCRIPTION

ORIGINAL BUILDING ARCHITECTURAL STYLE: VICTORIAN PERIOD 1851 - 1901 VERNACULAR.

THE BRIEF FROM OUR CLIENT WAS TO RETAIN THE PURITY AND SIMPLICITY OF THE FULLY RESTORED INTERIOR WITH THE USE OF INTERESTING FURNISHINGS TO CREATE A WARM WELCOMING FEELING.

OUR CONCEPT DESIGN FOR THE FURNISHINGS WAS TO INCORPORATE THE CONTEMPORARY AND CLASSIC PIECES TOGETHER.

THE ROOMS IN THE ORIGINAL HOUSE OVERALL ARE ON A SMALL SCALE WHICH CREATES CONSTRAINTS WITH REGARD TO THE SIZE, NUMBER, PLACEMENT AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE FURNITURE IN THE ROOM. THE LARGER FURNITURE HAS TO BE INSTALLED IN THE ROOM WHICH LEAVES LITTLE SPACE TO WORK WITH.

EVERY ROOM IN THIS PROPERTY HAS ITS OWN CHARM AND PERSONALITY WHICH PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE FURNISHING SELECTION.

THE INTERIOR HAD ALREADY BEEN COMPLETED WHEN OUR STUDIO WAS COMMISSIONED TO FURNISH THE HOUSE, MAKING THE FLOORING AND WALL COLOURS AND MATERIALS UNABLE TO BE ALTERED. WE TREATED THE NEUTRAL COLOURED WALLS AS OUR OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE THE FLEXIBILITY WHEN DECIDING WHAT MATERIALS AND COLOURS WERE TO BE USED FOR THE FURNISHINGS.

THE SELECTION OF FURNITURE WAS TAILORED TO COMPLIMENT THE HONESTY, PURITY AND SIMPLICITY OF THE INTERIOR OF THE HOUSE. THE USE OF MIX AND MATCH CONTEMPORARY AND CLASSIC MODERN FURNITURE CREATE A PLAYFUL WARM DECOR TO THE LARGER MAIN ROOMS.

THE INTEGRATED DRAWERS ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE SINGLE BEDS PROVIDE A STORAGE SOLUTION TO THE SMALL BEDROOMS.

USING THE DIFFERENT STAINED TIMBERS ON THE FURNITURE THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE CREATE A CONNECTION AND CONTINUITY FROM ONE ROOM TO ANOTHER AND ALSO GIVE THE SENSE OF THE ORIGINALITY TO THIS PLACE AND SPACE. AT THE SAME TIME WE WANTED TO BRING THE INTERIOR DECOR INTO TODAY’S THINKING.

THE LARGE SCALE FURNITURE AND RUG CREATE THE SENSE THAT THE ROOMS ARE LARGER THAN THEIR ACTUAL SIZE AND A MODERN PERCEPTION OF SCALE. THE BOLD COLOURED RUG EMPHASIZES THE OVERALL WHITE ON WHITE PAINT THAT WAS USED IN EVERY ROOM.

CONTEMPORARY FURNITURE AS WELL AS RECREATIONS OF FURNITURE FROM AN EARLIER SIMPLE ERA COMPLEMENTS THIS RESTORED INTERIOR.
FURNISHING PATTERNS WERE ALSO TO REFLECT THE TWO TIME PERIODS REMINDING US THAT THE SPACE WAS FROM A MUCH EARLIER TIME PERIOD AND ACHIEVING AN OVERALL FEELING OF COHESION.
